Appreciation for adam elliot:

If you're unfamiliar with his work, let me introuduce you to the bittersweet and very charming work of Adam Elliot. Mary and Max was my first experience from his filmography , and I've been taken with it ever since. Most of his works are shorts (and can be found for free on youtube!) , but his two most recent projects: Mary and Max (2009) and Memoir of a Snail (2024) are both feature length. I have yet to see "Memoir", but have seen everything else he's made. His use of claymation is distinctly his own. He's a brilliant storyteller and I'm often touched by the personal details woven into his characters and their lives. Most recently, I watched Harvie Krumpet (2003), A 22 minute short. I was moved to tears. I'll spare details because I think it's just worth watching on your own. Elliot's films fill me with a unique curiosity for life that always resonate with me long after watching. I feel better-off having seen his films..

I’m thinking of… eddsworld:

One of my first favorite creators. I watched Edd Gould's videos often when i was young. Looking back, he put me onto a lot of some of my favorite things today: my appreciation for Motown music, Rocky Horror picture show and Shaun of the dead were all started with the references to these works in his videos.

After his passing in 2012, his channel still releases videos created by the current Eddworld team. This team contributes to a lot of charitable initiatives, particularly focused on cancer, children's health and the creative arts. I wasn't up-to-date with the account's whereabouts, but was so happy to see the fantastic efforts in keeping someone's memory thriving- especially someone i know has inspired more than just myself :)

He's inspired me a lot, so i figured I'd share <3

Thinking about: Aamon animations

I’ve really wanted to share this creator’s work with you. If you are unfamiliar - this is the eerie, (only slightly) exaggerated 3d animated world of Aamon’s animations. His videos feature a surrealistic narrative as well as authentic audio clips which further demonstrate the subject’s absurdity. These narratives serve as social commentary and include Donald trump, Elon Musk, Tucker Carlson, Andrew Tate and the like. Fantastic use of imagery, and a truly cinematic viewing!

Thinking about: Clyde Mcphatter

Lately I’ve been thinking of Clyde McPhatter. He started as part of the vocal quartet: “The Dominoes” at the age of 18. He was known for his use of gospel- like attributes in his singing while performing in the R&B field- creating a movement that would later be brought into the mainstream as a form of sixties soul. His second group was one he had started, under the name “The Drifters”. This group would give us the iconic performance in the holiday classic “White Christmas”. (My personal favorite Christmas song). McPhatter was drafted in 1954, but returned with a solo career after having been discharged, two years later. In the early 60s, he moved to the UK where he found success and a fresh audience. He returned to the states in the early 70’s, was signed to Decca Records, and released the album “Welcome Home”. The album itself didn’t achieve much success- Mcphatter himself denied having any audience or fans left. Unfortunately, alongside his career decline came years of personal struggle with addiction. In 1972, Clyde McPhatter passed at the much-to-soon age of 39.

I wanted this to be a chance to honor his voice and contributions to music. He had fans then, and undoubtedly does now. Clyde McPhatter created a pivotal impact and was a timeless talent. His soulful presence was an inspiration across genres and was influential to musicians of all kinds: Elvis Presley, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke and Smokey Robinson to name just a few. We remember you, Clyde McPhatter.

*p.s one of my favorite lyrics comes courtesy of the last song: "Bless you" (referring to a partner/ loved one)

"Bless you.. for erasing all my fears/ bless you.. for painting rainbows with my tears/ and bless you.. for the helping hand you lend/ tender lover, and a true friend/ all the way to journey's end"
