I got these cute cases at a second-hand store in Simi Valley. It appeared that someone had donated their entire collection, as there were upwards of 10 Barbie storage and carrying cases. I only picked up the 2 that I liked the best <3
The sleep- and- keep in particular was so cool to me. I love the details and colors used in the bedroom’s design. The little closet, drawers, and pockets for storage are especially nifty too.
These are some other variants of the case/bedroom setup. I think they’re all so cute I love the unique style in each one :-)

1.) make 2 small cuts in top and bottom of can (preferably with a box cutter)
using your 2 cuts as guidelines, cut the can horizontally
(different can used in representation)
2.) cut until you have the middle section with the design separated from the top and bottom.
use the bottom of the can for the center of your flower
3.) ( if you haven't already, clean can piece you plan to use for your flower) then, on the inside of your sheet, draw the petals for your flower & cut out.
4.) If you'd like to add a ribbon/ wire as a stem, I'd punch a hole in your center piece and feed it through.
Once cut, bend the pointed part of your petals in a 90 degree angle and glue in layers onto the center of your flower.
5.) once you've glued all your petals, i like to add a final few touched of glue to ensure everything stays put :)

Lately I’ve been thinking of Clyde McPhatter. He started as part of the vocal quartet: “The Dominoes” at the age of 18. He was known for his use of gospel- like attributes in his singing while performing in the R&B field- creating a movement that would later be brought into the mainstream as a form of sixties soul. His second group was one he had started, under the name “The Drifters”. This group would give us the iconic performance in the holiday classic “White Christmas”. (My personal favorite Christmas song). McPhatter was drafted in 1954, but returned with a solo career after having been discharged, two years later. In the early 60s, he moved to the UK where he found success and a fresh audience. He returned to the states in the early 70’s, was signed to Decca Records, and released the album “Welcome Home”. The album itself didn’t achieve much success- Mcphatter himself denied having any audience or fans left. Unfortunately, alongside his career decline came years of personal struggle with addiction. In 1972, Clyde McPhatter passed at the much-to-soon age of 39.
I wanted this to be a chance to honor his voice and contributions to music. He had fans then, and undoubtedly does now. Clyde McPhatter created a pivotal impact and was a timeless talent. His soulful presence was an inspiration across genres and was influential to musicians of all kinds: Elvis Presley, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke and Smokey Robinson to name just a few. We remember you, Clyde McPhatter.
*p.s one of my favorite lyrics comes courtesy of the last song: "Bless you" (referring to a partner/ loved one)
"Bless you.. for erasing all my fears/ bless you.. for painting rainbows with my tears/ and bless you.. for the helping hand you lend/ tender lover, and a true friend/ all the way to journey's end"
